Sizing
I did not read anything about the vest before purchasing but not a bad product. I am a medium build guy (6' tall 180 lbs) I usually wear a 42 coat with my suits. I bought a medium thinking it may be close and I am still swimming in it. I'm just going to alter it myself but I will bet about 1/4-1/8 of the material is going to be taken off. I would have gone with a small.
Also, great timing on delivery. I was worried I wouldn't get it in time for Halloween (ordering it 2 weeks prior and not living in the states at the moment. After one week, it was in my box waiting for me. Enough time to make it just right.
Useful only if you can alter it yourself
Having checked the reviews before purchase, I understood that the product would be much larger than the impression the pictures gave. However, being able to sew, I purchased the product anyway as it is incredibly difficult to find a double breasted vest for under $50. Even with initial research, I was still surprised by what I ultimately received. I will share my findings for anyone who cannot touch this in person before purchasing:
* I echo other reviewer's sentiments that this item is very large. It claims on the package to be a medium, however, I would describe as at least as an American XL.
* The vest is made of two types of fabric, a faux brocade paisley and a faux satin back. The front portion of the vest is made up of one layer of each fabric while the back portion is made up of two layers of the faux satin. (For what it's worth, the faux brocade does at least *look* nice)
* The above mentioned fabric is quite thin. Because of this, the drape leaves a lot...
Eh...it's ok.
It is what it is... a costume vest. Don't expect high quality but it's meant for fun right? The seam in the back was busted but easily fixed with a slip stitch.
